Minecraft Life Steal
by ProdigeGasy
Minecraft Life Steal is a server-side datapack that changes how health moves between players when one defeats another.
What it does
The datapack lets a player take health from enemies they defeat, so a kill raises the killer's strength and the victim loses part of their maximum health. The idea follows the life-steal mechanic found in many classic RPGs, where demise becomes a source of power. Players can remove the datapack safely by following the uninstall steps, and the datapack folder is the only trace left behind once it is removed.
The datapack is coded with JMC and is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with the single 1+mod build covering 1.21 – 1.21.1. Server owners install it as a datapack, and it is marked as compatible with other datapacks that follow standard conventions. Server owners install it, and players can join with or without it.
Key features
Health stealing
Defeating an enemy transfers part of its health to the player who made the kill.
Warrior progression
Each kill strengthens the player, turning defeats into a steady gain of survivability.
Uninstall command
A command entered in the chat window removes the effect, and the datapack can then be deleted from the datapacks folder.
Datapack packaging
The effect is packaged as a standard datapack that sits alongside other datapacks without conflict.

Use cases
Survival servers
Server owners add a combat rule where every kill has a lasting cost and reward for the victor.
Hardcore runs
Players who want higher stakes in single-player worlds can load the datapack for the same effect.
Who it’s for: Server owners and players who want a combat rule where defeating another player or mob changes their health. Because the datapack is server-side, players join without installing anything on their own game.
How it compares
Life Steal Enchantment is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, server required with the client optional, and covers 1.21 – 26.3 across all four loaders. Life Steal Mod is a NeoForge mod for 1.21.1 only, requiring both client and server, and is not open source. Minecraft Life Steal is server required and works on the same loaders and versions as Life Steal Enchantment, but it is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
