Musical Instrument Minecraft Interface (MIMI)
by tofodroid
Musical Instrument Minecraft Interface, or MIMI, is a Forge and NeoForge mod that adds dozens of musical instruments that players can play in several ways.
What it does
Instruments can be played with in-game controls, or driven by external MIDI files. Players can hook up an outside MIDI keyboard, like a digital piano, and play the instruments with it directly. Each channel of a MIDI file can be assigned to its own instrument, so a guitar part and a drum part can be played together by separate instruments and kept in sync, which makes it possible to build remixes of a song while it plays.
Listener and receiver blocks convert notes played on instruments into MIDI, and redstone signals can trigger musically synced effects, including complex redstone programs. Server owners can upload MIDI files to the server so that any player can play them on the instruments. MIMI is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Its files are published for 1.18 – 1.21.1 across 13 release versions, and the latest builds for 1.21.1 are dated 2025-07-05.
Key features
Dozens of instruments
The mod adds a large set of musical instruments that can be placed and played in the world.
Multi-instrument MIDI playback
MIDI files are split by channel, so each instrument plays its own part while the whole file stays in sync.
Listener and receiver blocks
Blocks convert notes from instruments into MIDI and let redstone signals drive synced effects.
Server-hosted MIDI files
Server owners upload MIDI files that players can perform on the server's instruments.

Redstone music
Builders can connect listener and receiver blocks to redstone circuits to trigger music-synced effects in their builds.
Who it’s for: Players who want to perform music in their worlds, builders who combine music with redstone, and server owners who host shared MIDI songs for their players.
