MEOWS
by encode42
MEOWS lets a mod pack author run one-time actions, such as overwriting or deleting files, once per version during startup.
What it does
MEOWS provides a system for specific actions at startup. Each action is defined as an entry listing the files it overwrites or deletes for a given version. An action runs only once: when the game starts, MEOWS performs the actions it has not already performed, and after the local MEOWS version is updated, those actions cannot run again. An overwrite action needs the corresponding file to be located in the defaults directory. The top-most action takes precedence.
Existing options survive default files, so a pack can keep player settings such as options.txt across updates. Options.txt stays in the defaults directory, and if it is deleted, it is copied again the next time the game starts. Fabric API is required. MEOWS is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, runs on client or server, and is published for Fabric, with files for 26.1 – 26.2.
Key features
One-time startup actions
Overwrite and delete actions run during startup and are recorded so they are not repeated for the same version.
Overwrite and delete lists
Each action names the files it touches, and the top-most action takes precedence when several apply.
Defaults directory
Overwrite actions read their source from the defaults directory, which MEOWS populates from the pack.
Preserved player options
Only files that do not yet exist are copied, so changes made by a player to settings such as options.txt are kept after an update.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Requirements
Dependencies declared by the latest file for each loader.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Pack builders who ship settings files and want to avoid resetting what players changed after an update.

What the author says
Similar to YOSBR or Configured Defaults, this mod provides a way to copy default game files when Minecraft is started.
