Memento Mori
by stormdirus2
Memento Mori, a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.16.5, reworks the Attrition effect so that soul damage and mob-based Satiation play a larger role in a run.
What it does
Attrition has been reworked. The effect lasts 20 minutes by default, and the duration can be changed through gamerules. When the timer runs out, the effect drops one level instead of disappearing, and a level IV Attrition takes 80 minutes to clear completely. In human form the Attrition timer ticks upward instead of downward. Once the configured Attrition duration is reached, the duration resets and the amplifier increases, and reaching level IV with a lower Attrition level kills the player. Level IV is the maximum.
Satiation can be gained by possessing a mob and attacking certain types of mobs, and it is one of the mod's new mechanics. Humans in the Minecraft world give the most, while Piglins give smaller amounts, about a quarter. Taking soul damage adds to Attrition duration instead of damaging health, with 3 soul damage adding 3 seconds by default. The mod also includes balancing options for Golems, Piglin Brutes, Soul fire and Dragon breath.
The mod requires Requiem, which it relies on for its underlying balancing, and it also works alongside the content balancing add-on Requiem. The mod runs on the server only, so players join without installing it, and the code is released under the MIT License, so it is open source.
