Block Physics
by stormdirus2
Block Physics makes blocks without support fall or break when the supporting block around them is removed, and it reacts to player and world events.
What it does
A block that loses its support can fall, and the system checks the neighbors of a block whenever an event changes its position. Blocks break when the player breaks one, when a player places one, when fire reaches it or when an explosion destroys its neighbors, and the physics update then reaches the blocks near it. Some blocks search for supports upward instead of downward, which changes how structures hang.
Support is searched along eight vectors in the x-z plane, and the reach of that search can be raised so a long block can be supported within its own reach in a chosen direction. Blocks that carry the sticky tag, such as fences, walls, chains and iron bars, behave differently, and blocks with a slipperiness value above 0.6, including those tagged as liquids like lava and water, follow their own rules. The author describes the system as an alternative to the scaffolding blocks of Enviromine, and it is aimed at builders who want skylights and frames that behave like real architecture.
The mod is Fabric-only and works on the server alone, so players join without installing it. Files exist for 1.16 – 1.16.5 under a custom license that is not open source, and the latest build is v1.3 for 1.16.5, published on 2021-02-17.
Key features
Support-based falling
Blocks without support fall when the block beneath or beside them is removed.
Event-driven updates
Breaking, placing, fire and explosions trigger checks on neighboring blocks.
Adjustable search reach
The horizontal support search can be extended, so a long block can be held within its own reach.
Sticky block tag
Fences, walls, chains and iron bars use a tag that gives them separate physics behavior.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Skylights and frames
Builders can make skylights and frames that stay in place, using the support search to hold blocks in shapes found in real architecture.
Who it’s for: Builders on Fabric servers who want structures that react to removal and to fire or explosions, and server owners who want that behavior in a survival or adventure world.

What the author says
Blocks have a max reach distance based on their blast resistance. They can only reach out so far from a 'support' (a column of block(s) that are connected to a highly-surrounded block or a high blast resistance block) Blocks that are not near a support will fall when 'updated'.
