MagicSkin
by AsamiKafune
With MagicSkin, players can load custom skins of 64x64 up to 8192x8192 pixels and keep them on their own computer.
What it does
MagicSkin lets a player drag a skin file straight into the game, with support for files up to 5MB each. Skins are kept on the player's own computer rather than uploaded, and hotkeys let a player switch quickly between favorite skins. Installing it also requires Forgified Fabric API and Sinytra Connector, and restarting Minecraft after a change may be needed.
The mod is categorized as Social, with secondary tags for Decoration, Utility and Management. Files cover 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Server-side, the mod can block skin file transfers, and it can also be used with external image hosting for skins that a server does not store itself.
The license is Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0, so the project is not open source. The latest Fabric file is 0.3h-1.21.1+fabric, the Forge file 0.1h-1.20.1+forge is in the beta channel, and the NeoForge file 0.3h-1.21.1+neoforge is also in the beta channel. The mod was first published on 2025-12-18 and last updated on 2026-06-02.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want larger or more varied custom skins than the default size allows, and server owners who want to control how skin files reach players.
How it compares
DynamicSkins is client and server, published for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 under All rights reserved and not open source, so it covers the same versions as MagicSkin. SkinChanger is also client and server, under the MIT License, and is open source with files for 1.19 – 1.21.3. Skin Layers Hide is client-side only under a custom license, so servers need nothing installed for it.
