Low Latency

by WinExp

Low Latency reduces input latency for players whose GPU is at full load while the CPU keeps queuing frames, a case the mod addresses on Fabric and NeoForge.

FabricNeoForgeClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source26.1 – 26.2

What it does

The mod lowers input latency when the GPU runs at full load and the CPU builds up a frame queue backlog, an approach inspired by NVIDIA Reflex. It estimates input latency from recent CPU and GPU frame times and inserts waits before input events, so the frame queue does not grow. A config menu lets players turn the feature on or off. Fabric API is required, and Sodium is optional. The mod runs on the client only, is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and has files for 26.1 – 26.2.

Key features

  1. Input latency reduction

Waits are placed before input events so the frame queue stops building up under full GPU load.

  2. Frame time estimation

Input latency is estimated from historical CPU and GPU frame times to decide how long to wait.

  3. Toggle in config

A config menu entry enables or disables the low latency feature.
