Lose Your Touch
by Shevchyk
Lose Your Touch makes survival harder by changing how the first resources are gathered and crafted, for players who find normal survival too lenient.
What it does
The mod's author developed it for players who want survival to feel harder than normal or hardcore difficulty. Under Lose Your Touch, a new world begins without the usual starting path: a fresh player must craft a digging stick from two sticks before anything else, and gather flint to make a primitive axe. The mod also changes the crafting table recipe, so planks and wood cannot be reached the normal way.
Lose Your Touch runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. It is published for Forge only, for 1.19.2 and 1.20.1, with 1.0.8 for 1.20.1 as the latest file, dated 2024-03-08. The code is not open source and is released under All rights reserved. The mod does not add a pickaxe to the starting kit, so a player has to get one through the altered route.
Key features
Primitive starting tools
A new world starts with the digging stick and primitive tools instead of the standard early tools.
Flint-based crafting
Flint is used in place of the usual materials for the first digging sticks and planks.
Changed crafting table recipe
The crafting table recipe is altered, so the first wood and planks come through a different route.
Harder early survival
Chopping wood cannot begin the game directly, which pushes the early game toward slower gathering.

Who it’s for: Players looking for a survival challenge beyond the normal or hardcore difficulty settings, and server owners who want an altered opening for their community.
How it compares
Primitive Start is a Forge mod for 1.18.2 – 1.20.1 that also reworks the start of survival; it is client and server and released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Sticks to Planks is a Forge mod for 1.20.1 with the same environment and license, and it changes the path from sticks to planks. Shattered Legacy: Lose Hearts on Death is a Forge mod for 1.20 – 1.20.6 released under the MIT License, and it is not open source in the sense of the catalog's open-source flag.
