Living Fauna

by uokik

Living Fauna brings real-world animals into Minecraft, each with behaviors and interactions of its own, so forests and open land feel more alive.

FabricClient and serverMIT License26.1.2

What it does

Living Fauna spawns animals in forests, in dark areas below the surface and in taiga, meadow and snowy biomes. Its mice gather together in groups, and when one is attacked the others scatter. The predators hunt mice, rabbits and chickens, while players are chased by some animals that flee instead of approaching.

Mice can be fed and tamed with raw mouse meat, which is also dropped when a mouse dies. Some mice steal food from accessible chests, so storage is not entirely safe near their habitats. Living Fauna exists to give Minecraft's animals a livelier, more natural presence, and its creatures are built to be encountered while exploring instead of standing as scenery.

Living Fauna needs Fabric API and Geckolib, both required dependencies, and runs on Fabric only. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source. Files are built for 26.1.2 only, and the latest file is 0.4.1, published on 2026-07-06 on the alpha channel. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Key features

  1. Real-world animals

Animals modeled on real species appear in the world, each with its own behavior and interactions.

  2. Natural spawning

Animals spawn in forests, taiga, meadows and snowy biomes, and in dark areas above Y50 as well.

  3. Mouse flocks

Nearby mice scatter when one is attacked, so a single hit changes how the whole group behaves.

  4. Predator hunting

Predators hunt mice, rabbits and chickens, adding a food chain to the animals that live in the world.

  5. Chest-stealing mice

Mice can steal food from accessible chests, so players need to guard their supplies.

  6. Taming with raw mouse meat

Raw mouse meat, which mice drop, is used to tame them.
