LG's Command Items - Easy Custom Items

by LordGacie

LG's Command Items lets server owners define custom items whose effects run from commands, with optional cooldowns and event triggers.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License1.21.6 – 26.1.2

What it does

The mod adds a way to attach commands directly to item components, so a custom item can run a function when it is used. Each item can include a cooldown, which keeps repeated use from firing every tick. Items are defined through the mod's data files, and a server can add new ones without writing Java code.

Triggers cover the events an item can react to: using an item, hitting an entity, killing an entity, taking damage from an entity, and a change in the player's inventory. A ticking trigger runs every server tick, twenty times per second, and the author recommends pairing it with a cooldown. Only the server has to run the mod, so players can join without installing it. Published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with files for 1.21.6 – 26.1.2, under the MIT License. The project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Commands on item components

Commands can be attached straight to an item's components, so a custom item performs an action when players use it.

  2. Built-in cooldowns

Items can carry a cooldown, which limits how often the attached commands can fire.

  3. Event triggers

Triggers fire on item use, player attacks, player kills, damage taken, and inventory changes.

  4. Ticking trigger

A trigger runs every server tick, and the author suggests using a cooldown with it to reduce load.

Use cases

Custom server items

Server owners can create items with their own behaviour, such as a reward item tied to an in-game event.

Combat and kill rewards

The attack, kill and damage triggers let an item respond to fights without a separate plugin.

Who it’s for: Server owners and pack makers who want to build custom items from commands and data files, without writing a mod of their own.

Questions

Does the server need LG's Command Items?

Yes. It is required on the server and optional for players. Clients can join without installing it.

Which loaders are supported?

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt all have files. The latest build, 1.0.3, targets 26.1.2.

Why should a ticking trigger use a cooldown?

A ticking trigger runs every tick, so the author recommends a cooldown to keep it from firing constantly, which can affect performance when several players use it.

What the author says

For any ticking trigger, I recommend not using cooldowns simply for optimization purposes, it won't fry your ticks if you don't do so, but with several players using those, it may very likely affect your performance negatively
