Lava Source
Lava Source lets players create infinite lava sources, the same way water works in vanilla Minecraft, for automated lava supply.
What it does
Lava placed between two source blocks can turn into a new source block, so a lava pool becomes renewable. Each generated source counts as a full lava block, which makes a steady flow usable for automated fuel systems that would otherwise run out. The effect follows the water rule that already exists in the game, applied to lava.
The mod is server-side and can run on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with files for game versions 1.21.9 – 26.3, including snapshot builds. It is distributed as a data pack, and servers that keep it can install it by dropping the zip file into the world's datapacks folder and then reloading the world with the reload command. Only the server needs the mod; players join without installing anything. Lava Source is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license and is not open source.
Key features
Infinite lava sources
Two lava source blocks can generate a new source block between them, making lava renewable like water.
Fuel system support
Renewable lava suits automated fuel systems that need a steady supply without manual refilling.
Datapack installation
The mod ships as a zip file that goes into the world's datapacks folder, followed by a world reload.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
This mod also publishes snapshot builds. Snapshots are not shown in the matrix.
Use cases
Automated fuel
A factory or generator fed by renewable lava avoids the need to collect buckets by hand.
Survival builds
Players who want a lava supply in survival can make a source pool that does not drain.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want renewable lava in a survival or modded world, and players who rely on automated machines that burn lava.
How it compares
Infinite Lava is an alternative that covers the same lava mechanic. It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt on 1.21.11 – 26.3 and is released under the MIT License, which is not the license of Lava Source. Simple Name Tag is server-side as well but works on game versions 1.16 – 1.21.11 and uses the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, the same as Lava Source.
