Lando's BetterF5

by BlaBit

Lando's BetterF5 changes what the F5 key does, adding hold and double-press shortcuts for the third-person views.

ForgeClient-side onlyMIT License1.8.9

What it does

Pressing F5 in vanilla Minecraft cycles through three camera angles. Lando's BetterF5 keeps that key but adds two alternate ways to reach the back and front views: holding an assigned key switches to the third-person back view for as long as it is held, and a double press or a double tap with hold switches to the third-person front view. Both behaviors can be changed in the controls menu.

The mod is a client-side utility for Forge 1.8.9 and changes nothing on the server, so only the player who installs it needs it. Files are published for Forge only, with 1.3.1 as the latest build, released 2025-03-10. The code is released under the MIT License, but the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Hold to switch back view

Holding the assigned key switches the camera to the third-person back view and returns to first person on release.

  2. Double-press front view

A double press of the assigned key, or a double tap followed by a hold, switches the camera to the third-person front view.

  3. Customizable controls

The hotkeys can be set from a dedicated group of options, so players can choose keys that suit their layout.

  4. Latest update recorded

The catalog records the last update as dated 2025-03-31 by the author.

Use cases

Quick camera checks while building

A player can glance behind or in front of the character with one held key, without cycling through all three F5 views.

Combat and exploration

Players who fight or explore can check the area around the character while keeping the first-person view as the default.

Who it’s for: Players on Forge 1.8.9 who want faster camera switching than the standard F5 cycle. Server owners do not need to install anything for it to work.
