What it does

!lag is a Fabric optimization mod for the client. It brings performance-focused graphics tuning into one searchable settings screen, merged with the vanilla video settings and grouped into organized tabs. Options cover culling of entities and block entities, distance and frustum culling, and a particle budget that limits how many particles are drawn. An optional fullbright setting and a lightweight built-in FPS HUD are included, along with smooth hold-to-zoom that responds to scrolling.

The goal is to make the game easier to tune and to limit expensive visuals, so unnecessary rendering can be reduced without changing gameplay logic. Players can apply recommended settings from one place. Fabric API is required. The mod is for Fabric only, with files for 1.21.4, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3; the latest file is 3.0.0 for 26.3, published 2026-10-11. It is client-side only, so servers do not need it, and it is released under the MIT License but is not open source.

Key features

  1. Combined video and performance screen

Vanilla video settings and the !lag options appear together in one merged screen.

  2. Safe culling controls

Entity and block entity culling can be adjusted, along with distance and frustum culling.

  3. Particle budget limiter

A cap on particles keeps busy scenes from drawing more particles than the chosen budget.

  4. Smooth hold-to-zoom

Zoom is held on a key and adjusted with the scroll wheel for a smoother transition.

Who it’s for: Players who want to tune graphics and frame rate on the client without touching gameplay. Servers do not need the mod.

How it compares

Rhenium is for Fabric 1.21.1 – 26.3, has all rights reserved and is not open source, and either side can run it. FPSFlow is client-side only, open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only, and covers 1.21.11 – 26.2. Particle Culling is client-side only, open source under the MIT License and covers 1.21 – 26.3, so it does one job where !lag bundles several.
