What it does

Particle Culling is a client-side Fabric mod that lets players block individual particle types in-game through a Mod Menu config screen. Blocked particle types are not rendered at all, which removes the work the client would otherwise spend drawing them. Heavy but unneeded effects such as potion swirls, area effect clouds and explosion particles are common targets, and clearing them can help frames per second and reduce visual clutter.

The mod reads the list of registered particles at runtime, including those added by other mods, so the selection covers more than vanilla effects. Quick controls switch a particle type on or off with one click, and a custom selection lets the player fine-tune exactly which particles keep rendering. Cloth Config API is required, and Fabric API is needed on Fabric, so both must be installed alongside the mod.

The mod is open source under the MIT License. Files are published for Fabric only, across nine release versions 1.21 – 26.3, and the latest Fabric file is 1.0.0+mc26.3 for 26.3, dated 2026-10-13.

Key features

  1. Per-type particle blocking

Each particle type can be blocked separately, so only the effects the player dislikes disappear.

  2. Dynamic particle registry

The selection list is built from the particles registered in the game, including those added by other mods.

  3. One-click quick controls

Particle types can be switched on or off with a single click from the config screen.

  4. Custom selection

A player can keep chosen particle types rendering while blocking the rest, to fine-tune the visual result.

  5. Mod Menu integration

The settings open from the Mod Menu list, and the choices apply to the client game without a server setting.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who want to tune which particle effects appear on their own client, including those who play on servers, since only the client needs the mod.
