Kle's Render Layer Optimizer
by klecakes
With Kle's Render Layer Optimizer installed, Minecraft's rendering layers for items such as armor, weapons and banners can be removed when configured, which reduces the drawing work on the GPU.
What it does
Minecraft draws many item layers separately, including armor trim, pattern layers on banners and shields, and color layers on leather armor, tipped arrows and potions. The mod lets players switch off chosen layers so that items with many of them stop costing frames. Changes are made through a configuration screen built with Cloth Config API, and Mod Menu can open that screen when it is installed.
The author reports a test in which a row of 10 enchanted helmets lost one rendering layer and dropped from about 20 to 25 fps compared with 10 non-enchanted helmets. Kle's Render Layer Optimizer is distributed for Fabric only and is released under the MIT License as open source. Fabric API and Cloth Config API are required, and Mod Menu is optional.
Key features
Configurable render layers
Each rendering layer that the mod can remove is toggled separately, so players choose which visual layers to keep.
Armor trim and pattern layers
Armor trim layers and banner or shield pattern layers can be removed to lower the cost of drawing those items.
Color layers
Color layers on leather armor, tipped arrows and potions can be disabled for items that carry many of them.
Configuration screen
Settings are edited in a screen built with Cloth Config API, which Mod Menu can open when present.

Use cases
Crowded item-heavy screens
Players with large armor or weapon collections who see frame drops in busy areas can remove layers they do not need.
Who it’s for: Players who run item-heavy builds or armor-heavy gear and want to reduce the rendering cost on their client. Client-side only, so server owners do not need to install anything.
How it compares
Sign Optimizer is client-side only, under All rights reserved, and built for 1.21.8 – 1.21.11, so it is not open source. Tab Optimizer is also client-side only and MIT licensed, but targets only 1.21.11. Kle's Render Layer Optimizer is MIT licensed and works on items rather than signs or the tab list.

What the author says
Kle's Render Layer Optimizer looks to fix the issues of Minecraft's rendering layers on items and armor. Minecraft's rendering layer tanks your fps when many items or players are on your screen. Each layer is another thing for your gpu to draw, from testing, 10 enchanted helmets (1 layer each) drops your fps by 20-25…
