Tab Optimizer is a Fabric client mod that trims the cost of the player list shown while the Tab key is held on large servers.
What it does
Holding Tab opens the player list, and on servers with many players that list can cause lag and stutter. Tab Optimizer reduces the work done while the list is open: it can stop drawing player heads, cut the number of GPU draw calls, and swap the visual latency bars for plain colored text. Each change is a separate option, so a player can keep the parts they want and disable the rest.
The mod also lets a player hide server header and footer announcements, remove title suffixes after names, filter emojis and unreadable characters from nicknames, and cap how many players appear in the list, with values from 20 up to 500 or unlimited. It is client-side only, so it changes nothing on the server and needs no installation there. Files exist for Fabric and 1.21.11 only, with the latest file 1.1 released as a beta on 2026-07-23. Fabric API is not listed as a requirement. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source; source code and an issue tracker are public.

Head rendering off
Turns off player head rendering entirely, removing a large share of the work done for the list.
Fewer draw calls
Reduces the hundreds of GPU draw calls the list would otherwise issue, with a simplified 2D layer that drops the hat overlay.
Text-based latency
Replaces the ping bars with color-coded text values, or hides the ping indicator completely.
Server banner control
Hides multi-line animated server headers and footers at the top and bottom of the list.
Name and character cleanup
Nicknames and prefixes lose emojis, decorative symbols and characters that cannot be read, and the cleaner also strips the text that follows a name in titles.
Player count limit
Caps the number of visible players in the list, from 20 up to 500, or leaves it unlimited.
