JasonConfig
by Corrinedev
JasonConfig is a Forge configuration library that stores its settings as JSON rather than the TOML format Forge uses by default.
What it does
Developers who write config classes for JasonConfig get settings saved in JSON files. The format supports empty lists, which Forge configs handle poorly and can break on, and it can read and write many more Java and Minecraft classes, such as Vec3, which Forge configs cannot store. Config classes are written in code in a style close to Forge config classes, so the change in approach stays small.
The mod is a library that other mods depend on, so players normally do not interact with it directly. Either side can run it, and neither needs it. Files are published for Forge only, for the game versions 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, with 1.1.1 for 1.20.6 as the latest file. The code is under the MIT License and is not open source.
The author describes the mod as experimental and notes that bugs may still appear. An example config and documentation for the API are included in the api package of the mod, which can be read after adding the mod as a dependency.
Key features
Empty list support
Settings that hold empty lists are stored in JSON without breaking, which Forge's TOML configs do not reliably handle.
Custom class values
Classes such as Vec3 can be saved to and loaded from config files without custom handling.
Config classes in code
Developers declare settings as classes in code, in a style similar to Forge config classes.
Documented API
The api package contains an example config and documentation for the classes a developer needs.

Use cases
Mod developers
Developers who want lists, nested objects or custom Minecraft classes in their settings can store them directly in JSON.
Configs read by hand
Anyone who edits the JSON files directly can open them as plain text, which the author notes is less readable than TOML.
Who it’s for: Mod developers building Forge mods who need configuration that handles empty lists or types Forge configs do not support. Players do not install it separately unless another mod requires it.
How it compares
KubePackages is a Forge library for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 that runs on client and server and is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. Vinconfig lib is client-side only, targets 1.20.1 and is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution No Derivatives 4.0, so it is not open source. GeoAnim is also client-side only for 1.20.1 and is licensed as All rights reserved.
