Item Use Restrictor

by falseresync

Item Use Restrictor lets a server owner block specific items from being used inside chosen cubic areas, which suits Adventure mode servers.

FabricServer-side onlyApache License 2.0Open source1.20.4

What it does

Restrictions are set by item ID and by a cubic area defined through the coordinates of two opposite corners. Within that area the listed item cannot be used, while the same item works normally elsewhere. Several restriction areas may overlap, and the mod supports dimensions, so a rule can apply in the Nether or the End as well as the Overworld.

The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing anything, and only the server needs Fabric API to run. Files are published for Fabric 1.20.4, with 1.0.1 as the latest build, released under the Apache License 2.0 and open source. Source code and an issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Item use restriction by area

A listed item cannot be used inside its restricted area, and the restriction ends at the area's border.

  2. Command-based setup

Rules are created with a command that takes the item ID and the coordinates of the two opposite corners.

  3. Overlapping areas

Multiple restriction areas can overlap, letting a server stack rules over the same space.

  4. Dimension support

Restriction areas work in more than one dimension, so rules can follow the world's layout.

How it compares

WorldLimit Fabric is also a server-side Fabric mod under the MIT License, but it is published for 1.20.1 rather than 1.20.4. areaKeepInventory is server-side and open source under the Apache License 2.0, yet it targets 1.21.11 – 26.1.2 and works on Fabric. BreakControl runs on the client only and is licensed under the MIT License for 1.21.8 – 26.2, so it covers a different environment and version range.

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency, and the mod is published for Fabric only.

Do players have to install the mod?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join.

How is a restriction rule found?

The item ID is looked up in the item-use list, and the coordinates of two opposite corners define the cubic area where the item is blocked.
