Item Editor - Component & NBT
by noramibu
With Item Editor - Component & NBT, a player can open the item held in hand and change its data components through a graphical editor instead of raw NBT text.
What it does
Item Editor opens a GUI for the held item. Changes are written to a draft first and only applied once the player confirms, so a mistake can be discarded before it touches the stack. Live preview shows the item as the edits take shape. The mod edits data components directly rather than relying on older raw NBT structures, although a raw NBT fallback exists for data that has no dedicated editor.
The editors are tailored to item type. Books, banners, custom fireworks, containers, villager trades and command blocks each get their own screen, and a text editor that highlights syntax and checks input covers the rest. Creative mode is needed to use the editing screen.
Item Editor is client-side only, so a server does not need it and players can join without installing anything. It runs on Fabric and Quilt, is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code is public. Lumen Tooltips is an optional dependency that adds tooltip support.
Key features
Draft-first editing
Edits accumulate in a draft and are applied only on confirmation, which keeps changes predictable and reversible.
Component editors
Name, glider, death protection, nutrition, saturation, use behavior, combat behavior and animation fields each have their own control.
Specialized item screens
Books, banners, fireworks, containers, signs, potions, villager trades and command blocks open dedicated editors.
Searchable sound picker
Hit sounds and other sound fields can be chosen from a searchable list, so the right sound is found without typing its identifier.
Raw NBT fallback
A text editor with syntax highlighting and validation handles any data that has no dedicated screen.
