Instant Experience Orb

by Itamio

Instant Experience Orb is a Forge server mod that changes how experience orbs are collected, absorbing them at once and merging nearby orbs into fewer entities.

ForgeServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.12.2

What it does

Experience orbs picked up by players are absorbed on contact, with no delay before the experience is added. Nearby orbs also clump together into a single larger orb, so a field of small drops becomes a handful of entities. The total experience gained stays the same; only the number of orbs in the world changes.

Leveling is simplified as well. Each single point of experience counts toward one level step rather than following the vanilla curve, which suits servers that want a plainer progression. The changes are aimed at lowering entity load on busy servers, and the mod is classified under Optimization with a Utility secondary category.

The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing anything. It is released under the MIT License, the source code is public, and the project keeps an issue tracker and a wiki. Files target Forge 1.12.2 only, with version 1.0.0 as the latest file, published on 2026-04-10.

Key features

  1. Instant absorption

Experience orbs are taken as soon as a player touches them, with no pickup delay.

  2. Orb clumping

Nearby orbs merge into one larger orb, so fewer entities remain loaded at once.

  3. Simplified leveling

Each single experience point counts toward a level, replacing the vanilla experience curve.

  4. Total experience preserved

Merged orbs carry the same total value, so ten separate single-point orbs become one ten-point orb.

Use cases

Busy mob farms

Farms that release many experience orbs at once can end up with thousands of entities; clumping keeps that count lower.

Servers chasing lower lag

Server owners who see entity counts climb can use the mod to reduce the number of orbs in the world.

Who it’s for: Server owners running Forge 1.12.2 who want fewer experience entities and a simpler leveling system. Single-player players gain little, since the changes apply to orbs and levels on the server.
