InfinityLib

by infinityraider

InfinityLib is a Forge library by infinityraider that bundles code shared by several of the author's mods, so each one does not carry its own copy.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.18.2

What it does

Several mods by the same author used parts of the same code, and keeping identical copies in sync across projects became a hassle. The author moved that common code into one small library, which adds no content of its own. It only supplies the classes that other mods need to run.

Mods that depend on InfinityLib follow its versioning. The library's version number corresponds to the patch number it was fixed in, and a dependent mod can break binary compatibility with other dependencies when it changes. InfinityLib runs on client and server, so both sides need it for the mods that use it.

The library is published for Forge only, for Minecraft 1.18.2. The latest file is infinitylib-1.18.2-2.1.4, dated 2022-07-18, and released under the MIT License as open source. Source code and an issue tracker are linked from its page. Two mods in the catalog require it, 3D Maneuver Gear and NinjaGear.

Key features

  1. Shared classes

Provides the common classes that the author's other mods call, so the code exists in one place.

  2. No content of its own

The library adds no blocks, items or mechanics for players; it only supplies code for other mods.

  3. Patch-matched versions

Each release number matches the patch number of the dependent mods it was fixed for, keeping dependencies aligned.

Compatibility

Latest build for each game version and loader.

Use cases

Dependent mod authors

Developers building on the same shared classes can pin to a matching InfinityLib release instead of copying code between projects.

Who it’s for: Players who install 3D Maneuver Gear or NinjaGear need this library on Forge 1.18.2, and developers who want the same shared classes can depend on it as well.

Questions

Does 3D Maneuver Gear need InfinityLib?

Yes. 3D Maneuver Gear is one of the two catalog mods that require InfinityLib, along with NinjaGear, so the library must be installed next to it.

Does InfinityLib have to be installed on both sides?

Yes. Installation covers the server and each player's game.

Which game version does InfinityLib support?

Only Minecraft 1.18.2 on Forge. The latest file is infinitylib-1.18.2-2.1.4, dated 2022-07-18.

What the author says

I'm at the point where I have multiple mods which all use parts of the same code. Maintaining those chunks of identical code over multiple projects became a real hassle, so I decided to bundle the common code into one small mod. This mod does nothing on its own, except for providing the necessary classes for my mods.
