Improved Snowfall
by d3v_c
Improved Snowfall replaces the vanilla snow streaks with slower crystal snowflakes that drift, swirl and settle on surfaces before they fade out.
What it does
Improved Snowfall is a lightweight visual overhaul of the snow weather. Instead of the default streaks, falling snow is drawn as custom crystal snowflake particles. Their motion is slower and more natural, with subtle wind drift and swirl variation, and spawn patterns are less uniform so the snowfall looks less mechanical. Snowflakes react lightly to the player's movement and briefly settle on blocks near the player before fading away.
The goal is a calmer, thicker and more convincing snowfall that stays cheap to render. The mod changes only how snow looks and leaves gameplay mechanics alone. Players on Fabric and Forge can use it in any world with snow, and it is published for Minecraft 1.21.11 only. Only players need it installed, since a server can run without it. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source.
Key features
Crystal snowflake particles
Default snow streaks are replaced by custom crystal snowflake particles that fall more naturally.
Wind drift and swirl
Snowflakes follow subtle wind drift with swirling variation, so the movement differs from one flake to the next.
Surface settling
Flakes briefly settle on blocks near the player before fading out, with a smooth fade-out.
Less uniform spawning
Spawn patterns vary across the area, giving a more realistic snowfall rather than an even grid of flakes.
