Immersive Engineering
by BluSunrize
Retrofuturism and industry come together in Immersive Engineering, a Forge and NeoForge technology mod with multiblock machines, hanging powerlines and a large bucketwheel digger.
What it does
Immersive Engineering replaces the usual tech look with realism-inspired machines. Power travels through cables spanned between connectors rather than through lanes of blocks, and the powerlines hang visibly between poles. Generators include waterwheels, windmills and biodiesel production, and the mod uses the Forge Energy API, so it can also be played as a standalone tech set.
Many of its machines are multiblocks. A crusher is a 5x3x3 structure with rotating wheels that breaks ore into particles, and a larger 3x7x8 multiblock uses a turning bucketwheel to pull ore from the ground. The mod is built to balance tech progression while keeping a retro-futurist style inspired by games and films such as BioShock. It runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it, and it is published for Forge and NeoForge across 1.12.2 – 1.21.1, under a custom license that is not open source. Public links exist for the source code and the issue tracker. The mod is required by 42 other catalog mods, including Immersive Fixes and Immersive Energistics.

Use cases
Industrial base building
Players build multiblock factories that process ore into materials, with power supplied by hanging cable networks.
Standalone tech play
Because it uses the Forge Energy API and needs no other tech mod, it can serve as a self-contained power and processing setup.
Who it’s for: Players who want multiblock machines and a visual tech progression fit for survival worlds, and server owners who run modpacks that include industrial content.

What the author says
Overall, it's about realism-inspired technology: Instead of glowing red tubes, it offers actual, hanging powerlines. Instead of one block that magically spits out dusts when ore is put in, it offers a crusher, a big multiblock (5x3x3) that features rotating wheels and spits out particles as it breaks the ore.
