Highland Chaos

by Hyeve

Highland Chaos is a Fabric mod for 1.20.1 that fills a world with randomized events, from spawning entities and shuffling inventories to moving blocks and applying potion effects.

What it does

Highland Chaos is inspired by the randomizer game modes of Yoshi's Highland, and it runs on the server alone, so players join without installing anything. Fabric API is required and must be installed next to it. Builds exist only for 1.20.1, and the latest Fabric file, version 1.02, was published on 2024-02-11 after a first release on 2023-12-13.

Most of the chaos comes from timed random effects. Entities and items appear and vanish at random, creatures wander to new positions, blocks begin to fall or shift, and the player receives potion effects picked by chance. Commands prefixed with highland control the effects, with numeric values for tuning their strength and frequency. The highlandStart command must run after a world loads so the effects begin in order.

The author states that multiplayer is completely untested and that most effects support it. Servers that run the mod do so at their own risk. The code is available publicly, but the mod is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.
