XP Health

by mvciek

XP Health ties maximum health to experience levels, so players gain extra hearts as they level up on a Fabric server.

What it does

XP Health rewards players who gain experience with additional health. Five configurable experience levels each grant extra hearts: reaching level 5 adds one heart, level 10 adds two hearts and level 30 adds six hearts. The bonus is applied by the server, and clients see the extra hearts once they join a server that runs the mod.

Health scales in both directions. A player who loses levels, for example by enchanting or dying, sees the maximum health drop accordingly. The mod is server-side only, so the server alone needs it installed, and players join without changing anything. XP Health is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric on 1.21.1, which makes Fabric API a required dependency.

Files were first published on 2026-02-06 and last updated on 2026-02-08, with the latest Fabric build at 1.0.0 for 1.21.1. The source code and an issue tracker are publicly available.

Key features

  1. Level-based heart bonus

Reaching configured experience levels grants extra maximum health, with the milestones set at levels 5, 10 and 30.

  2. Dynamic health scaling

Maximum health falls again when a player loses levels through enchanting or death, so the bonus tracks the current level.

  3. Configurable thresholds

Each of the five experience levels and the heart amount it grants can be adjusted in the mod's settings.

  4. Server-side operation

Only the server needs the mod, so players gain the extra hearts without installing anything on their own game.

Use cases

Progression on a survival server

Server owners can make experience a visible part of survival progress, with players growing sturdier as they level up.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want experience to affect health, and players on those servers who want to see the extra hearts from their levels.

Questions

Does XP Health need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency and must be installed alongside XP Health on the server.

Do players need to install XP Health?

No. Only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything.

What happens to health when a player loses levels?

The maximum health decreases to match the lower level, so losing levels through enchanting or dying reduces the bonus accordingly.
