Heart Harvest

by FROG__MAN

Heart Harvest awards permanent max hearts when a player defeats a mob, with the reward scaled to how dangerous that mob is.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT License1.21.9 – 1.21.11

What it does

Each mob kill can raise the player's maximum health, and tougher mobs give more hearts. Hearts persist across sessions and server restarts without any command, so a gain stays with the character. The mod targets Fabric and covers Minecraft 1.21.9 – 1.21.11 across three release versions, with 1.5.0 for 1.21.11 as the latest file.

Heart Harvest is server-side only, so only the server needs it and players join without installing anything. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source. Installation needs Fabric Loader and Fabric API. A config file is generated on first launch, and changes to mobOverrides and the blacklist apply instantly in-game through commands, while some settings need a restart.

Key features

  1. Hearts for mob kills

Each mob killed raises the killer's maximum health, so the health bar grows over time.

  2. Danger-based rewards

The number of hearts earned depends on how dangerous the defeated mob is, so harder fights pay more.

  3. Persistent progress

Gained hearts remain through sessions and server restarts without any extra commands.

  4. Adjustable mob list

The mobOverrides and blacklist settings control which mobs count and how many hearts each one gives.

  5. Live configuration

Most config changes apply instantly in-game through commands, and the rest take effect after a restart.

Use cases

Survival progression

Players can use the hearts as a long-term goal, pushing toward a larger health bar by hunting harder mobs.

Server reward systems

Server owners can tune the mob list and the blacklist to shape which fights earn the most.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want a progression layer tied to combat, and players who enjoy hunting dangerous mobs for permanent health gains.

How it compares

Full comparison

XP Health is also server-side only and open source under the MIT License, but its files target 1.21.1, while Heart Harvest covers 1.21.9 – 1.21.11. Mob Lifesteal needs the server to run it while clients may leave it out, and it has a custom license and is not open source. Longlive requires both the client and the server and is licensed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.
