Heal the parrots

by MinecraftX

Heal the parrots lets a player feed a poisonous potato to a tamed parrot to restore the bird's health, a fix for parrots that otherwise cannot be healed.

FabricServer required, client optionalAll rights reserved1.21.11

What it does

Heal the parrots adds an interaction with tamed parrots that restores their health. A player holds a poisonous potato, which is otherwise a decorative item, and uses it on a parrot. Hearts appear above the bird, and a short period of regeneration follows. Damage the parrot takes while regenerating still applies, so the effect does not replace other protection.

The bird has to be tamed, and it must sit on or stand atop a block that is solid, while sitting below full health. Other parrots within a few blocks of the one being healed are affected as well.

It is required on the server and optional for players. Heal the parrots is published for Fabric only, for 1.21.11, with its latest file from 2026-10-05, under All rights reserved. It is not open source. Fabric API is required and must be installed next to it.

Key features

  1. Poisonous potato healing

Using a poisonous potato on a tamed parrot restores its health, where vanilla gives no way to heal one.

  2. Regeneration with hearts

Hearts appear above the parrot after use, and a brief regeneration period follows.

  3. Nearby parrots

Other parrots within a few blocks of the healed bird are healed too, so a flock is treated together.

  4. Conditions for healing

The parrot must be tamed and perched on a supporting block, and below full health before the potato works.

Use cases

Keeping a tamed flock alive

Players who keep parrots as companions can restore a hurt bird without waiting for it to recover on its own.

Who it’s for: Players who keep tamed parrots on a Fabric server and want a way to restore their health. Server owners who run the mod need Fabric API installed beside it.

How it compares

Lyngarr's Cookies for Parrots is an open source Fabric mod under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, for 1.21.7 – 1.21.11, and it runs on client and server, so both sides need it. Educate Your Parrots is open source under the MIT License, for 1.21 only, and it also runs on client and server. Heal the parrots differs in its environment, since the server carries it while players may leave it out, and it is not open source.

What the author says

Parrots heal from Poisonous potato! This tiny mod/datapack adds an interaction with parrots, rectifying the unfair inability to restore health. Moreover, poisonous potatoes are now not merely decorative but also useful items. Using it fully heals the bird (you will see hearts appear above it) and provides a brief…
