Hbm's Nuclear Tech - Muddy Edition

by DirtWithWaterz

Muddy Edition brings nuclear physics content into Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge, with reactors, explosions and machines drawn from the original Hbm's Nuclear Tech line.

What it does

The mod is a rewrite of the original Hbm's Nuclear Tech, created by Bobcat, and aims to carry the content of that classic release forward to newer Minecraft releases. Its feature list is still growing, and the author describes the 2.0.0-alpha builds as alpha quality, so missing features, bugs and world corruption are possible.

Geckolib is required and must be installed alongside the mod. Just Enough Items (JEI) is optional and adds recipe lookup when present. Launch the game with Forge 1.20.1 to run the mod. Conflicts with other mods can occur, and the author reports the mod was tested with other mods, but no full compatibility list is given.

Muddy Edition is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code and issue tracker are public. Client and server share the mod, so both sides need the same build. Files exist for 1.20.1 alone, with 2.0.0-alpha as the latest Forge file, published 2025-11-23.

Key features

  1. Nuclear physics content

The mod adds nuclear physics machinery and explosions, with the author promising even stronger blasts in later builds.

  2. Rewrite of the original mod

Muddy Edition reworks the original Hbm's Nuclear Tech codebase rather than only porting it, aiming to keep the classic content as the target.

  3. Bug reporting

The author asks players to report bugs and issues with details, since the alpha builds still have known problems.

  4. Geckolib animations

Several models and animations rely on Geckolib, which must be installed for them to load.

How it compares

Full comparison

Hbm's Nuclear Tech: 1.20.1 Port is also a Forge mod for 1.20.1, client and server, but it is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, while Muddy Edition uses the GNU General Public License v3.0 only. HBM's NTM Nuclear Tech Reforged targets 1.12.2 instead, under the same LGPL v3.0 only license, so it does not cover 1.20.1.

Questions

Does Muddy Edition require Geckolib?

Yes. Geckolib is a required dependency and must be installed next to the mod on Forge 1.20.1.

Does Muddy Edition have to be installed on the server?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Is the mod stable enough for a long-running world?

The author describes the builds as alpha quality and warns of bugs and world corruption, so backing up a world before use is advisable.
