Grid World Generator

by Vaibbs

Grid World Generator strips most of the terrain from new Fabric worlds, leaving a sparse 3D grid of blocks that players can navigate and build from.

What it does

Grid World Generator is a server-side world generator that removes about 89.67 percent of the surface world, so most terrain, trees and ores are gone and only a lattice of blocks remains between voids. Structures such as villages and temples still appear as normal, and biomes, mobs and spawning continue to work, so the land itself is what is mostly missing. Fabric API is required, and the server must run the mod, while players may also install it on their client.

The mod is aimed at a survival challenge in which a player must make a life out of scattered resources, and it is compatible with most terrain mods since it does not fully replace vanilla chunk generation. The concept draws on minimalist terrain generators and skyblock-style grid survival, but keeps the remaining framework open to creative rebuilding. Files are published for Fabric only, for game versions 1.21.5 – 26.3, with 1.1.0 for 26.3 as the latest file, released under the zlib License and not open source.

Key features

  1. Sparse 3D grid

Most of the terrain is removed, and the remaining blocks form a grid of platforms the player can move across and build from.

  2. Intact structures

Generated structures keep spawning in the void, so explorers still find familiar landmarks among the platforms.

  3. Reduced resources

Wood, ores and natural ground cover are scarce, which makes each find rare and shapes the survival challenge.

  4. Terrain mod compatibility

The generator does not fully override vanilla chunk generation, so other terrain mods can work alongside it.

What the author says

You’ll spawn into a world that’s eerily empty. The terrain is fractured. Biomes still exist, structures still generate, and mobs still spawn—but the land itself is mostly gone. What’s left is a minimal framework of blocks… and your creativity. Get ready to rebuild a world from (almost) nothing!
