What it does

Other Forge mods for 1.7.10 use the library to apply mixins, which change code in the game at load time. It ships a shadowed fork of Sponge Powered Mixins at version 0.8.5-GTNH, and it bundles the libraries that made the upstream 0.8.5 release hard to use on 1.7.10. It replaces the older SpongeMixins project, which was renamed to make clear it is separate from SpongePowered Mixins, the code it is based on.

Two extra loading strategies are included, inspired by Mixin Booter Legacy. One handles mixins aimed at Minecraft, Forge and CoreMods, while the other handles mixins aimed at other non-core mods. Gravity Torch requires this library. The mod is published for Forge only, with its latest file, 2.1.2, built for 1.7.10 on 2022-12-08. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.

Key features

  1. Bundled mixin engine

A shadowed fork of Sponge Powered Mixins provides the code that applies changes to other mods at load time.

  2. Build-ready dependencies

The supporting libraries the upstream 0.8.5 release needs are included, so developers do not have to add them separately.

  3. Early mixin targets

Mixins that change Minecraft, Forge or CoreMods are applied at the earliest stage through a dedicated interface.

  4. Late mixin targets

Mixins that change other mods are applied later, marked with an annotation and a matching interface.

Use cases

Who it’s for: The library is aimed at mod developers working on 1.7.10 who want to write mixins against Forge and against other mods. Players reach it only as a dependency of another mod.

How it compares

Full comparison

UniMixins is the successor the author points to, with Forge files for 1.7.10 under a custom license, so it is not open source. GasStation is another Forge option for 1.7.10 under a custom license that is not open source. SpongeMixins 1.7.10 is Forge-only for 1.7.10, open source under the MIT License, and works on either side, and neither side needs it. Mixin 0.7-0.8 Compatibility is open source under the MIT License, but it covers 1.10.2 – 1.12.2 instead.

Questions

Does Gravity Torch need GTNH Mixins?

Yes. Gravity Torch requires this library, so it must be installed alongside it on Forge for 1.7.10.

Is GTNH Mixins still maintained?

The page says the library is deprecated in favor of UniMixins, so the successor is the project to use for new work.

When should a developer use the late loader?

The late loader suits mixins aimed at other mods that are not core mods. Both the ILateMixinLoader interface and the @LateMixin annotation are needed.
