Grow-A-Mon

by Mole Co.⛏

Grow-A-Mon lets datapack creators tie Cobblemon spawns to the blocks that players break, so harvesting a crop or mining a stone can bring a Cobblemon species into the world.

What it does

Grow-A-Mon is a Fabric library that reads spawn configuration files from datapacks. Each file names a block and the Cobblemon species that appears when a player breaks that block. The block can be a plain one such as stone, a crop such as wheat, a flower such as sunflower, or a modded block given as a namespace and block id. Creators can also set several optional parameters on each spawn, which shape when and how the species appears.

The mod works with crops, flowers, ores, grass and other block types, including blocks that have age or stage properties and blocks that do not. It is published for Fabric only, for 1.21.1, with 1.1 as the latest file. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join. The code is released under the MIT License, but the mod is not open source. Snapshot builds are not published.

Key features

  1. Block-triggered spawns

Breaking a configured block makes a Cobblemon species spawn at that location.

  2. Datapack configuration

Spawn rules are written as JSON files inside a datapack, with examples for wheat, sunflower and stone.

  3. Optional spawn parameters

Several optional settings on each spawn let creators adjust the rules without changing code.

  4. Modded block ids

Any block can be referenced by its namespace and id, so modded crops and ores can trigger spawns too.
