Grid Inventory
by RowLan_232oO
Grid Inventory replaces the usual slot layout of the player inventory with a grid where each item takes a width and height of cells, and it is available for 1.16.5 – 26.1.2.
What it does
Items are placed into a two-dimensional grid, so a sword may occupy a long strip while a potion takes a single square. The footprint of each item can be set in the mod's configuration, letting a server owner decide how many cells a given item covers. Footprints are tinted by item rarity so the shapes can be read at a glance.
The design takes its cue from grid inventories in several survival and role-playing titles, and the author describes the goal as raising the difficulty of inventory decisions and adding immersion. The change applies only to the player inventory; chests and other storage blocks keep their normal slots. Configuration is handled through commands, and the grid works alongside inventory-sorting mods and quick hotbar switching. Builds cover 1.16.5 – 26.1.2 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and the code is under the MIT License but is not open source.
Key features
Variable item footprints
Each item can occupy several cells, and the width and height of that area can be customized.
Rarity-colored shapes
Item footprints are drawn in colors that match item rarity, making the grid simpler to scan.
Command-based configuration
Item sizes and related options are set with commands rather than a separate settings screen.
Player inventory only
The grid changes only the player's own inventory, leaving chests and other storage untouched.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want tighter inventory limits and server owners who want to set item footprints for their world. Only the client needs it, so players can join servers without installing it.
