Gathering Chunks
by Ryvione
With Gathering Chunks, a world starts as a single chunk and grows only as players find special chests, craft Chunk Spawners and place them beside empty chunks to reveal new terrain.
What it does
Gathering Chunks gives world generation a steady pace of collecting and building. A new world consists of one chunk and nothing else. Scattered special chests hold the items needed to craft Chunk Spawners, and each spawner placed next to an empty chunk activates it and reveals new terrain. Cores, forges, scanners and menders let players manage and automate the growing world.
Gathering Chunks is a maintained fork of Chunk Chunk by immortius, created after the upstream project stopped receiving updates more than a year before the fork appeared. It keeps the original idea alive and brings it to current Minecraft releases. Fabric and NeoForge builds are published for 1.21.1, and Fabric API is required on Fabric. Just Enough Items (JEI) is optional and adds recipe lookup. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.
Key features
Single-chunk start
A new world begins with one chunk, and the rest of the terrain stays hidden until players expand it.
Chests as the source of parts
Special chests scattered through the world contain the items needed to craft Chunk Spawners.
Spawners that reveal terrain
A Chunk Spawner placed next to an empty chunk activates it, so the world grows one chunk at a time.
Cores, forges, scanners and menders
These blocks support the growing world, helping players manage and automate its expansion.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want a progression-driven world that grows from a single chunk, and server owners who want a shared expansion pace for their community.
How it compares
FloodWorld is server-side only, open source under the MIT License, and published for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21 – 1.21.11, so players join without installing it. Daily Expansion is server-side only and covers Fabric and Forge for 1.21 – 1.21.11, under the Apache License 2.0, which is not open source. Chunk Effects requires the server but leaves clients optional, and works only on NeoForge for 1.21.5 – 1.21.11.
