Gateways to Eternity

by Shadows-of-Fire

Gateways to Eternity adds wave-based combat events called Gateways, which open portals that release hordes of enemies in successive waves.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 26.1.2

What it does

A Gateway is summoned in the world with a Gate Pearl, an item players craft themselves. Each Gateway is set up by its own configuration, so the waves, the entities they contain and the rewards for completing a gateway can be read in advance. Gate Pearls and their recipes are shown in JEI, and the data stored on each pearl appears in its tooltip, with a Wave Data list that cycles through the waves with the scroll wheel.

The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it installed. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with public links to the source code and issue tracker. It requires Apothic Attributes and Placebo, and Better Gateways depends on it. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 26.1.2.

Key features

  1. Wave-based gateways

Each Gateway releases enemies in waves, and later waves grow stronger, which lets the fight build over time.

  2. Spawn and leash settings

Spawn range sets how far around the gateway edges mobs appear, and leash range sets the distance from the gateway center before out-of-bounds rules apply.

  3. Combat rules

Options control whether discarded or dimension-changed entities count as kills, whether wave entities can only damage the player who triggered them, and whether they are removed when a Gateway fails.

  4. Completion rewards

Finishing every wave of a gateway yields a completion bonus, and the rewards are listed on the pearl before a player summons it.

Use cases

Summoning on a server

A server owner who wants configured gateway fights can run them for every player while keeping the setup visible on each Gate Pearl.
