Fullbright Plus
by Ghosty920
Fullbright Plus is a Forge client mod that turns off several lighting and visual effects in Minecraft 1.8.8 and 1.8.9 to make the game brighter.
What it does
Instead of raising the gamma value, Fullbright Plus switches off the lighting system itself. Players can disable block lighting, entity lighting, ambient occlusion, the vignette and entity shadows, and the mod can also turn off Optifine's Dynamic Lights. Its changes only touch rendering, so gameplay, saves and game logic stay as they are.
The mod is published for Forge only, in two release versions covering 1.8.8 – 1.8.9, and its latest file is 1.2.0 for 1.8.9, released in July 2026. It is open source under the MIT License and is distributed with a source code link and an issue tracker. Only the client needs it, so servers and other players do not have to install anything.
Key features
Lighting system toggle

Block lighting and entity lighting can each be disabled independently.
Ambient occlusion and vignette
Ambient occlusion and the screen vignette can be turned off separately from the lighting options.
Entity shadows and Dynamic Lights
Entity shadows can be removed, and Optifine's Dynamic Lights can be disabled through the mod.

Use cases
Dark caves and night play
Players who build or explore in dim areas can remove the lighting effects instead of raising gamma by hand.
Low-end hardware
Turning off lighting calculations may reduce rendering work, according to the author's notes.
Who it’s for: Players on Minecraft 1.8.8 or 1.8.9 with Forge who want a brighter view and direct control over individual lighting effects.

What the author says
Other Fullbright mods will modify the gamma value, to make it very high. This often can just be overrided by users, or can be manually done. These mods do not offer anything special. Fullbright Plus comes and disable lightning in every part possible, to optimise the CPU and RAM usage. Why doing light calculations…
