FramePacer

by supcherski

FramePacer is a client-side frame limiter that paces FPS caps with a hybrid sleep algorithm to reduce frame time jitter.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient-side onlyMIT License1.8.8 – 26.3

What it does

The mod replaces the vanilla frame limiter with a hybrid sleep method, which the author says improves frame limiting precision. A stable FPS cap is the main goal, and the author states that FramePacer keeps the cap steady without the jitter that the vanilla limiter can introduce. Tests were conducted with Fabric and Sodium, and an empty world was used to isolate the limiter's overhead from gameplay.

Only the client needs the mod, so servers and multiplayer players do not have to install it. It requires MixinBooter and has no other dependencies. Builds cover 1.8.8 – 26.3 across Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with the latest files targeting 26.3 for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt and 1.12.2 for Forge. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Precision frame pacing

A lightweight hybrid sleep algorithm is used to pace frames more precisely than the vanilla limiter.

  2. Stable FPS cap

The frame cap is meant to hold steady, which the author describes as removing frame time jitter.

  3. Vsync and FPS cap handling

The author notes that the vanilla vsync and FPS cap can overwrite each other and make FPS unstable, and that FramePacer can be used with vsync enabled.

  4. Small footprint

The author lists the mod at about 5 KB in size.
