Stable FPS

by Patrolin

Stable FPS limits frame pacing on the client, so a chosen FPS target is reached instead of drifting 5 to 20 FPS below it.

What it does

The mod targets long-standing frame rate stability problems in Minecraft. Its frame pacing holds the framerate at the target set in the video settings menu, rather than letting it fall randomly during play. It also corrects the vanilla limiter, which is described as broken when the cap is set to Unlimited, and reduces the one-FPS drops caused by out-of-date timing information.

Frames that would never be shown are no longer rendered, which removes wasted work. Glitches that show up as the game launches or the window changes size are addressed as well. Recommended settings are provided for use with the mod, and the author kept changes to a minimum so the mod stays compatible with other mods.

Stable FPS is client-side only, so only the player's game needs it and servers run without it. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 40 release versions, 1.14.4 – 26.2, and is released under the MIT License as open source. Its source code and issue tracker are public. The author notes say it works with Sodium and with Ixeris, a version of which is listed as compatible.

Key features

  1. Frame pacing to a target

Frames are paced so the game reaches the FPS target set in the menu instead of running several frames below it.

  2. Fixed Unlimited cap

The Unlimited framerate option is reworked, since the vanilla limiter is described as broken in that mode.

  3. Less wasted rendering

Frames that will not be shown on screen are skipped, so the GPU spends less time rendering them.

  4. Startup and resize glitches

Graphical glitches that appear when the game starts or the window is resized are addressed by the mod.

What the author says

Minecraft mod to fix long-standing FPS stability issues. NOTE: You may experience graphical glitches when starting the game or resizing the window - this is intentional, as it would require a ton of work to fix and I want to keep the changes to a minimum to be compatible with other mods.
