Food Balance
by aste
Food Balance is a datapack that changes how food works in the game, with effects, purposes and a rebalance meant for survival worlds.
What it does
The datapack gives many foods a clearer role: some items that previously did little get a function, and two items that once shared the same effect now differ. The author describes the changes as major gameplay shifts, and the set is meant to keep vanilla feel while adding fresh mechanics.
Installation needs only the server side in a multiplayer setup, since the environment is server required with client optional. The datapack works alongside Apple Enchant, Mooshroom Energy and expanded food mechanics, and it is published for 1.21.4 – 26.2 across 12 release versions, under All rights reserved, so the code is not open source.
Key features
Rebalanced food effects
Foods are rebalanced so each one has a defined place in survival, rather than one food dominating every choice.
Formerly useless items
Items that were previously ignored gain a purpose and small mechanics that change how they are used.
Distinct effects
Two items that once shared an effect now work differently, which gives players more reasons to pick one over the other.
Datapack-based install
The changes are shipped as a datapack, so they load into existing worlds without a separate mod loader.

Who it’s for: Survival players and server owners who want food to carry more gameplay weight without a heavy mod setup.
