Fabricated Difficulty
by Neuromuser
Fabricated Difficulty lets each player pick a personal difficulty level that is separate from the world difficulty, so damage, hunger and experience change for that player alone.
What it does
Only the server runs it, so players join without installing anything. World difficulty keeps controlling mob spawning, loot drops and the other global mechanics, while this mod adjusts only player-specific combat, survival and experience rates.
Each difficulty tier sets how much damage hostile mobs deal, how fast hunger drains, whether starvation can kill, and how many experience points a kill grants. Server operators are the only ones who can change a player's difficulty, which keeps players from switching it for an advantage. Fabric API is required, and the mod bundles Cardinal Components API inside its jar. TieredZ is optional and adds modifier chances to reforge tiers at higher difficulties.
The mod is a Fabric port of an adaptive difficulty mod by Spiderman31807, with further changes by its author. Builds cover 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and the latest file is 1.0.3+1.21.1 for 1.21.1. The code is open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only.
Key features
Personal difficulty levels
Each player is assigned a difficulty level that applies only to that player, independent of the world setting.
Tiers for damage and experience
Higher tiers raise damage from hostile mobs and the experience gained from kills, while lower tiers reduce both.
Hunger and starvation per tier
Hunger drain and whether starvation can kill the player both change with the chosen difficulty.
Operator-only changes
Only server operators can change a player's difficulty, so players cannot adjust it themselves.
Reforge modifier chances
With TieredZ installed, higher difficulties improve the chance of reforge modifiers.
