by userofbricks

Expanded Combat adds a quiver, arrows, shields, gauntlets, extra bows and weapons, with shields and bows upgraded by material slots.

What it does

Shields in the mod have five material slots, and each applied material raises the shield's durability by an amount set by that material. Materials are placed at a smithing table. Adding a material can increase or decrease the shield's mending capability once the mending enchantment is on it. A material that replaces another does not return the old one. Some materials, such as netherite, only replace a specific earlier material, and currently netherite is the only one of that kind. JEI shows these recipes when it is installed.

Bows and crossbows follow a progression that is more linear than the shield system. Higher tiers give a longer range, but mixing materials unevenly across the slots causes the bow to shoot less effectively. The mod also adds gauntlets with knockback resistance and agility effects, and blocking enchantments for katanas and shields.

The mod needs Cloth Config API on every loader, and Curios API, which must be version 2.4.0 or above for the mod's features. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge for 1.19.4, 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and the code is covered by All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Five-slot shields

Shields take up to five materials that raise durability and adjust mending capability.

  2. Material bow progression

Bows gain range through material tiers, and balanced material choices keep their shots accurate.

  3. Agility gauntlets and armor

Gauntlets, chestplates, leggings and boots each give a different effect, ranging from faster swings to a higher jump and quicker dodges.

  4. Blocking on katanas and shields

Blocking on a katana lets it stop more arrows, while blocking on a shield makes the shield more effective.
