Executable Commands Items

by jeffrom

Executable Commands Items, or ECI, lets a player create custom items that each run a server command when used, and hands those items out to other players.

FabricClient and serverAll rights reserved1.21.1

What it does

Items created with the eci create command are bound to a command. When a player uses one, the stored command runs. Created items can be given to a player with eci give player and removed with eci delete, and they stay saved so they persist after a restart. Any server command can be stored, including commands added by other mods or plugins that register their own commands.

Commands can run as the player who used the item, in which case that player's permissions apply, or they can be changed to run from the console when the author wants the command to bypass player permissions. The mod is built on Fabric and needs Fabric API, and Mod Menu is optional for its configuration screen. It is client and server, so the server must run it and the client needs it as well. It is published for Fabric only, for Minecraft 1.21.1, and is not open source; the code is under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Command-bound items

An item created with eci create runs the command it was made with each time it is used.

  2. Give and delete

Created items can be handed to a player with eci give player or removed with eci delete.

  3. Saved custom items

Custom items are stored so they remain available after the server restarts.

  4. Permission-aware execution

A command can run as the player using the item, so the player's permissions decide what happens, or from the console instead.

Use cases

Who it’s for: The mod suits server owners and administrators who want items that trigger commands, and players who receive such items through a server. Players on a server without the mod can still join it, but the client side needs the mod to be installed for the items to work.
