by Coder2195

Ethereal Grove is a datapack-only recreation of the Twilight Forest for players who remember the original and want a newer take on it.

What it does

The mod is built entirely as a datapack and draws its inspiration from the Twilight Forest mod. Its author states that the content is a fan-made take on how that world could look today, and that it avoids copying the original exactly, using similar concepts and names while allowing the content to deviate to some extent.

Ethereal Grove is server required and client optional: the server needs it, while players may join without it. It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a data pack, across 3 release versions, 1.21.9 – 1.21.11, under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. The source code and issue tracker are public, and the project is not affiliated with the Twilight Forest mod, which the author links to on the project page.

Key features

  1. Twilight Forest inspired world

The datapack builds a dimension in the spirit of the Twilight Forest, with similar concepts and names rather than exact copies.

  2. Nostalgic revival

The content aims to bring back the feel of the original Twilight Forest for players who miss it, since that mod is no longer updated much.

  3. Datapack-only content

Everything is delivered through a datapack, so no separate Java code is needed beyond the loader the server runs on.

Use cases

Revisiting a familiar world

Players who spent time in the original Twilight Forest can explore a new version of its landscapes and themes.

Server adventures

Server owners can add the dimension and its content to a survival world, where players reach it through the mod's own progression.

Who it’s for: Players who remember the Twilight Forest and server owners who want a datapack-based version of it on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt.

Questions

Does Ethereal Grove need a mod loader?

It is a datapack, so it is delivered through a data pack and can also be installed as a mod on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt for 1.21.11.

Do players need to install Ethereal Grove?

Only the server must run it; players can join without installing it, and the mod works on the server side alone.

Is Ethereal Grove the same as the Twilight Forest mod?

No. The author states it is not affiliated with the Twilight Forest mod and uses similar concepts and names without recreating the original exactly.

What the author says

We all have heard about The Twilight Forest, but it's an mod from the legacy days, isn't updated in as much as we want to, just feels like an ancient relic in general. Minecraft datapacks have progressed quite a bunch, with useful utilities, and it's about time we brought some of that nostalgia over.
