Enchanting Overhauled

by JohnSmith474

Enchanting Overhauled replaces the random enchanting table with a modular altar, persistent Enchanted Tomes and themed enchantments tied to exploration.

What it does

The mod reworks how enchantments are obtained. The standard enchanting table is removed and replaced by a Modular Enchanting Altar with three physical states: Deactivated, Disturbed and Activated. Once activated, the altar opens an Enchant Menu where a player picks specific enchantments and applies them directly to tools and armor, giving deterministic control over gear progression instead of random levels and unwanted curses.

Enchanted Tomes are persistent, unlike standard enchanted books: they remain intact after application and can hold higher enchantment tiers in larger quantities. Tomes cannot be crafted and must be recovered through exploration. Enchantment Themes gate specialized enchantments behind artifacts from other biomes and dimensions, while Ancient Libraries in the Overworld hold lost lore and artifacts. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge, with builds for 1.20.6, 1.21.1 and 1.21.10.

Key features

  1. Modular enchanting altar

The altar replaces the enchanting table and offers a menu for transferring, upgrading and applying enchantments.

  2. Persistent Enchanted Tomes

Tomes stay intact after use and store higher tiers and larger numbers of enchantments than standard books.

  3. Themed enchantment gating

Specialized enchantments require artifacts from distinct biomes and alternate dimensions to be accessed.

  4. Ancient Libraries

Ruins scattered through the Overworld hold historical lore and rare artifacts needed for advanced enchanting.

  5. Experience scaling rework

Experience scaling is reworked so enchanting costs are easier to follow than the vanilla random system.
