With Elytra Contrails, a glider in flight leaves a trail of white vapor that resembles a real contrail.

What it does

The mod draws contrails behind Elytra wings, aiming for a realistic look. The author first tried a resource pack for the same effect but judged the result weaker, so the effect is built as a mod instead. Installation needs only Fabric; the mod is published for Fabric alone, across eight release versions covering 1.20.1 – 26.3, with 1.6.8-26.3 for 26.3 as the latest file, dated 2026-10-09.

The shape and length of each trail can be changed through many configurable options, which are reached from the mod menu. Players without the mod appear with the defaults set under "Other's Defaults" in that config, and on a server without the mod every other player is shown with those same defaults. A player can still see their own trails on such a server, but other players cannot see them.

Custom Elytra models can show accurate trails too: the author asks for bones named leftWingTip and rightWingTip, or trailSpawner when left and right do not matter. The environment is client-side only, so only the client needs the mod, and the code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only.
