Electrical Age: Re-Wired

by brambora67123

Electrical Age: Re-Wired replaces simple energy numbers with a power grid that follows voltage, resistance and heat, for the 1.12.2 version of Forge.

What it does

Power in the mod is modeled on real physics rather than a flat energy counter. Voltage matters: a 50V lightbulb plugged straight into an 800V high-voltage line will not work, so transformers and DC-DC converters are needed to step power up or down across long distances. Long cables add resistance, which causes losses, so wiring has to be planned to make sure power reaches each machine.

Generators come in several forms. Solar panels range from small roof units to large 2x3 arrays that follow the sun, turbines can be built on wind and water, and furnaces that burn coal produce heat that drives turbines. A power plant needs cooling, using passive heat sinks or active fans, or it overheats and can explode.

CoFH Core is required, so it must be installed alongside the mod. ComputerCraft and OpenComputers are optional and add integration with those mods. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. It is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Voltage management

Machines and cables carry voltage levels, and devices must be matched to the line they connect to.

  2. Step up and step down

Transformers and DC-DC converters raise or lower voltage so power can travel long distances.

  3. Resistive losses

Long cables lose energy to resistance, which makes wiring layout part of the design.

  4. Cooling and heat

Passive heat sinks and active heatsink fans keep a generator running without overheating.

Use cases

Solar and renewable plants

Roof panels, solar arrays, wind turbines and water wheels can feed one shared grid.

Coal-fired power

Furnace heat drives turbines, so coal becomes a source of electricity for the base.

Who it’s for: Players who want automation with real engineering tradeoffs, and server owners running technical packs on 1.12.2 with Forge.

Questions

Does Electrical Age: Re-Wired need CoFH Core?

Yes. CoFH Core is a required dependency and must be installed with the mod on Forge for 1.12.2.

Does the server need the mod?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Are ComputerCraft or OpenComputers needed?

No. Both are optional and only add integration with those mods when they are present.
