Effect Manager (Block Any Effect)

by Nickyouni

Effect Manager is a Forge utility for modpack developers and server admins that blocks chosen potion and mob effects from being applied to entities.

ForgeClient or server, optionalMIT License1.20.1

What it does

The mod stops specific potion and mob effects from taking hold on entities, no matter whether they come from potions, beacons, commands or other mods. Blocking is absolute, and an entity that already carries a blocked effect has it removed. Effects are listed by ID, including vanilla entries such as minecraft:speed and entries from other mods such as alexsmobs:soul steal, and the list lives in a config file. Players can be targeted alone, monsters alone, animals alone, or everyone, and a dimension whitelist limits blocking to chosen dimensions, for example to make the Nether harsher while leaving other worlds untouched.

Effect Manager is a lightweight mod with many config options. It is licensed under the MIT License and is not open source. It runs on Forge for 1.20.1 only, and either side can run it without the other, so installing it on one side is enough. Config changes apply through the effectmanager reload command in game, without restarting, and a developer debug mode logs each time an effect is blocked or removed.

Key features

  1. Absolute effect blocking

Listed effects are prevented from being applied, whatever their source, and existing instances are stripped from entities.

  2. Entity target filter

Blocking can apply to everyone, only players, or only mobs and animals, so a rule can be narrowed to one group.

  3. Dimension whitelist

Blocking can be limited to specific dimensions while other dimensions keep their effects.

  4. Live config reloading

Edits to the config file take effect after the reload command runs in chat, with no game restart.

  5. Debug logging

A toggle in the config prints detailed console logs each time an effect is blocked or removed, which helps test a balance.

Questions

Does Effect Manager need to be installed on the server?

No. It works on either side, and neither needs it, so it can run on a client, a server or both.

Can Effect Manager remove an effect that is already active?

Yes. An entity that already has a blocked effect has it forcefully removed.

How are effects identified in the config?

Effects are added to the list by ID, such as minecraft:speed for vanilla or alexsmobs:soul steal for an effect from another mod.

Do config changes require restarting the game?

No. After editing the config file, the effectmanager reload command in chat applies the changes instantly.
