Disenchant Anvil

by Holysweet

Players who enchant gear by accident can use Disenchant Anvil to strip enchantments and curses from items on an anvil, so the anvil itself performs the removal.

NeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1 – 1.21.8

What it does

Disenchant Anvil adds an anvil process that removes enchantments and curses from an item placed on the anvil. The item must sit on the top block of the anvil, and the anvil needs an Obsidian or Crying Obsidian floor underneath to work. Removal runs top down, so the mod strips the top layer first when several enchantments are present.

When an item has multiple enchantments, the mod splits them into separate enchanted books and leaves the original item in place only if the input allowed it. Single-enchantment books are left alone, so a book that already holds one enchantment passes through unchanged. The mod is open source under the MIT License and is published only for NeoForge.

The mod requires a floor of Obsidian or Crying Obsidian beneath the anvil, and that anvil must drop its output back into the world. Files cover eight game versions, and the latest NeoForge file, 1.0.0, is for 1.21.8. Client and server both need the mod installed, and the author thanks testers who checked edge cases.

Key features

  1. Anvil enchantment removal

Placing an item on the anvil strips its enchantments and curses, which lets players undo an unwanted enchant.

  2. Book splitting

Items with several enchantments are split into one enchanted book per enchantment, and the original item is removed.

  3. Single-enchant books kept

Books that hold a single enchantment are left as they are, so they do not get broken apart.

  4. Floor-based setup

Removal only works when the anvil stands on an Obsidian or Crying Obsidian floor, which fixes where the process can run.
