Damage Control

by Darkhax

Damage Control, by Darkhax, changes how much health mobs have and how much damage each source deals, through settings in a configuration file.

ForgeClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 onlyOpen source1.10.2 – 1.12.2

What it does

Damage Control lets a pack author raise or lower the maximum health of specific mobs, or of every mob including the player. A value can be set high or low, for example making creepers have 5 hearts instead of 10 or bats 1000 hearts, or making every mob 100 times tougher. The mod also applies damage multipliers to particular sources, so drowning can deal twice the usual damage while fall damage is removed entirely. A global damage modifier scales all damage sources at once.

The mod is aimed at modpack developers and server owners who want to rebalance combat, and at people balancing single player worlds. It runs on Forge for Minecraft 1.10.2 – 1.12.2, and the server and every player need it, because the environment is client and server. Damage Control is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, and its source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Max health manipulation

Maximum health can be raised or lowered for specific mobs, and the global health modifier changes it for every mob, including the player.

  2. Damage multipliers

Multipliers apply to chosen damage sources, so one kind of damage can be made heavier or lighter than vanilla values.

  3. Global damage modifier

A single setting scales all damage sources, and it can also scale the calculated damage up or down by a set factor.

  4. Configuration file

The file is generated on first load and lists vanilla entities alongside modded ones that are added later, so changes can be made in one place.

Use cases

Modpack balancing

Pack developers can tune how tough mobs are and how each damage source behaves before releasing a modpack.

Server rebalancing

Server owners can adjust combat values for their players without changing the code of other mods.

Who it’s for: Modpack developers, server owners and players who want to rebalance combat in single player worlds. The mod is most useful where the defaults of vanilla health and damage do not suit the pack.

Questions

Does Damage Control have to be installed on the server?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

How are the settings changed?

Once the mod has run and generated its configuration file, the file holds options for default max health, damage multipliers and the global modifiers, and changes take effect the next time the game loads.

Does the mod work with modded mobs?

Entities from other mods appear in the configuration file automatically, so their health can be changed the same way as vanilla mobs. Modded damage sources are simpler and may not all be affected.
