CustomSkinLoader
by xfl03
CustomSkinLoader loads custom skins, capes or elytra textures from online skin APIs or from local files.
What it does
Textures are read from a configurable load list of skin servers and special skin sites, and from files kept on the player's own computer. HD skins and capes are supported, and OptiFine capes are rewritten into the standard cape layout when required. Local textures go under the default folders inside the game directory, so no server is required to use them.
Skin server owners can offer their server to players by providing an ExtraList JSON file, which users place in the CustomSkinLoader folder inside .minecraft to add it to the list. Render patches keep skin and cape transparency correct on the versions that need them. Open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, its source code, issue tracker and wiki are public. Published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 75 release versions, with snapshot builds also available.
Key features
Multiple skin sources
The load list can include several skin servers and special skin sites, so skins and capes come from more than one place.
HD skins and capes
High-resolution skins and capes load as well, and OptiFine cape textures are converted when needed.
Local texture folders
Skins, capes and elytra textures can be placed in folders on the player's computer and loaded without a server.
Server-hosted lists
Skin servers can publish an ExtraList JSON file that users add to their folder to include the server in the load list.
Transparency patches
Render patches keep semi-transparent areas of skins and capes displaying as intended on supported releases.

Use cases
Using a skin server
A player who already has skins on a skin server adds the server to the load list, or to ExtraList, and the textures appear in game.
Personal textures
A player keeps custom capes and elytra textures in local folders and loads them without any online service.
Who it’s for: Custom skin, cape and elytra texture users, and skin server owners who want their server reachable from the load list.
