CustomServerMessages
CustomServerMessages lets server owners replace the vanilla join, leave, kick and status messages that Forge sends to players.
What it does
Forge sends default messages when a player joins or leaves, when a connection times out, when the server starts or stops, and when the server list shows its status. CustomServerMessages lets the server owner rewrite each of these texts from a configuration file, so the wording matches the server instead of the defaults.
The mod covers the join and leave messages, the timeout message shown when a connection drops, the kick messages used while the server is starting or stopping, and the message of the day shown during startup. It also covers the server version text and the hover message attached to it in the server list. Only the server needs the mod: players join without installing anything. Files are published for Forge only, across four game versions, 1.12.2, 1.19.2, 1.19.3 and 1.19.4, and the latest file is 5.0.0 for 1.19.4, released on the beta channel. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the source and issue tracker are public.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Server owners running Forge on the versions listed above who want to change the messages players see when they connect, disconnect or are kicked. Players on the server do not need the mod.
How it compares
Join Leave Messages covers a similar job for Fabric and Forge across 1.18.2 – 1.20.2, is server-side only and is open source under the MIT License. Maintenance Mode is also server-side only and open source under the MIT License, with files for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.12.2 – 26.3, so it fits servers on other loaders. Custom MOTD is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and targets Forge for 1.7.10 alone.
